JPMorgan Lands JPM Coin on Ethereum, Putting Institutional Dollar Settlements on a Public Chain.
What happened. JPMorgan has extended JPM Coin, its USD-denominated deposit token, to Ethereum, enabling peer-to-peer institutional transfers within the EVM ecosystem including Base. The token settles around the clock, any day of the week, backed by dollar deposits held at the bank.
Why it matters. A globally systemically important bank running a live settlement token on a public chain is a different category of event from a pilot or an announcement of intent. It puts regulated, bank-grade dollar liquidity directly inside EVM infrastructure, which every DeFi protocol builder and institutional integrator needs to take seriously now rather than eventually. The Fear and Greed Index sits at 55 — hardly euphoric — which makes the timing a signal of strategic commitment, not momentum chasing.
Watch. The immediate question is whether other GSIB-tier banks accelerate their own deposit-token programmes in response, and whether regulators treat on-chain bank deposits as demanding new prudential treatment. Adoption at the institutional client layer also depends on how custody and compliance teams handle the operational shift from private ledger to public chain.

BlackRock files a capital-protected bitcoin ETF, its third BTC wrapper. The asset manager submitted paperwork for a fund offering downside protection alongside upside exposure to its IBIT product. The filing marks a deliberate move to address the cohort of institutional allocators whose mandates block unhedged digital-asset exposure.

IBIT pulls in $665 million as ether ETFs continue to bleed. Bitcoin spot ETF inflows remain concentrated at the BlackRock product while Ethereum equivalents see net redemptions, a bifurcation that is beginning to look structural rather than temporary. Ethereum options markets reinforce the picture, with puts trading above calls and the skew sitting in negative territory.

Bitcoin stabilises above $82,000 as equities recover and DeFi tokens outperform. BTC briefly touched $83,000 before slipping back, tracking a Nasdaq rebound of more than 1% led by chip stocks. DeFi-adjacent tokens led the altcoin side, though the move looks more like a relief bounce than a trend reversal given continued macro headwinds from elevated oil and yields.

Strategy and Strive both added to their bitcoin positions last week. Strategy picked up 267 BTC for roughly $22 million, taking its stack to 848,517 BTC with $5.9 billion in unrealised gains. Strive moved larger, purchasing 1,223 BTC for $100 million at an average of approximately $81,734, lifting its total to 36,818 BTC after warrant exercises brought in $369 million.

Mastercard launches a stablecoin fraud and sanctions screening API at Money20/20. The Stablecoin Security tool combines payment intelligence and blockchain analytics to flag risk before funds move on-chain, with North American availability now and a global rollout targeted for 2027. Alongside this, Mesh and Visa announced a partnership letting users spend crypto and stablecoin balances directly from wallet apps without a separate card or prior conversion.

Bitmine adds 12,535 ETH, reaching 99% of its self-declared accumulation target. Chairman Tom Lee framed last week’s broader market selloff as an entry opportunity, with the purchase bringing Bitmine’s treasury to 6.04 million ETH, representing roughly 4.9% of circulating supply. The firm has set a stated goal of holding 5% of supply, meaning further buying is likely near completion.

Nine major US companies object to having their shares listed on OKX and ICE’s planned tokenised stock venue. Verizon, Broadcom and UnitedHealth are among the firms that have formally pushed back against the exchange’s proposal to tokenise and trade their equity without consent. The objections centre on consent, corporate governance, and potential conflicts with existing securities agreements, raising real questions about how tokenised equities work when the underlying issuer refuses to participate.

SkyAI liquidated its entire Solana treasury and launched a $201 million buyback. The firm converted all SOL holdings to cash, sitting on $223.8 million, and opened a buyback at a $3 floor running through 29 October. The pivot away from SOL as a reserve asset is notable given how many smaller treasury programmes have treated Solana as a default allocation.

Ransom negotiator suspected of running ShinyHunters extortion infrastructure. Federal investigators probing the ShinyHunters group, which recently took data from the FBI, have identified executives at two ransomware negotiation firms with unusually close ties to the hackers. One US-based executive is suspected of actively helping operate the pressure site used to coerce victims into paying.

XRP Ledger patches its lending protocol before it goes live. Developers published a second amendment to fix a flaw in the uncollateralised lending feature while the original amendment still awaits validator approval. Catching protocol-level bugs before activation is the correct sequence; the fact that two amendments are now queued before a single user transaction has run is worth watching.

UK home invasion crew jailed after failed crypto theft attempt. Three men were arrested on site in May after attacking a victim in his home and being alerted on by his teenage sister. Physical security threats against known holders remain an underweighted operational risk for people whose on-chain activity is public.

CFTC rejects CME’s legal position in a fight over jurisdiction on perpetual futures. The regulator formally rebuffed CME’s argument in what is described as a consequential dispute over which rulebook applies to perp contracts, a product with deep roots in crypto markets and growing TradFi interest. The outcome will shape whether perpetuals can trade on US regulated venues and under what framework, affecting every venue and protocol with a perps book.

Blockchain Association and Coin Center both file GENIUS Act implementation comments, pushing for tighter definitions. The Blockchain Association wants clearer rules on DeFi protocols and foreign issuers under Treasury’s proposed stablecoin framework, warning that vague language risks regulatory overreach. Coin Center’s separate filing makes similar points on the boundaries of who counts as an issuer and what activities trigger the regime.

France moves a stablecoin tax amendment through its National Assembly. The amendment targets certain stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps as taxable events, with separate proposals on exit taxes and self-custodial wallet reporting still under debate. France is moving faster than most EU member states in layering domestic rules on top of MiCA, creating a patchwork that operators active across Europe will need to navigate carefully.

SEC announces a November roundtable on machine-readable data and superintelligence risks. The 9 November session will examine how SI-era data requirements affect disclosure, reporting costs, and market oversight. It is an early signal that the SEC is beginning to frame its data and surveillance infrastructure questions around AI capability rather than just current technology.

Last sip. The CFTC-CME perpetual futures dispute is still open, and whichever way it lands will redraw the map for every venue that wants to offer the product in the US.
