Bitcoin Cracks $83K as Oil Tops $101 on Iran Strike Reports, Triggering $547M in Liquidations.
What happened. Reports of a planned Israeli strike on Iran drove oil above $101 a barrel and pushed the 30-year Treasury yield to its highest since 2002. Bitcoin broke below $83,000 in the sell-off, with roughly $547 million in leveraged positions liquidated across the market in short order.
Why it matters. The macro correlation is back and it bit hard: crypto traded as a risk-off casualty, not a hedge. Worth noting that the Fear & Greed Index still reads 64, down 10 points on the week, meaning sentiment was already softening before the shock arrived.
The catch. The daily chart structure, stair-step higher lows, is technically still intact, but the nearest cohort of underwater holders did not get the relief rally they needed. If BTC cannot reclaim $87,000 on the bounce, that cohort becomes a ceiling, not a floor.

US government shuffles $103M in seized BTC and BNB with no explanation. Government-flagged wallets moved 833.6 BTC to Coinbase Prime deposit addresses and shifted 40,285 BNB in a separate transaction. No sale has been confirmed and no official statement accompanied either move, leaving the purpose open to interpretation.

Once complete, Bitmine holds the largest Ethereum treasury of any public company.

The combined entity will use onchain credit infrastructure to finance sectors that traditional lenders have struggled to underwrite efficiently. It is an early sign of DeFi protocols repositioning themselves as capital providers for hard-asset, capital-intensive industries rather than just crypto-native yield.

Samsung Wallet adds USDC transfers on Solana for Galaxy device users. The feature is native to Samsung Wallet rather than a separate crypto app, with built-in fiat on- and off-ramps. A separate integration brings USDC to 82 million Galaxy devices via Sui, giving Circle two distinct Samsung distribution channels simultaneously.

Vitalik Buterin puts a two-year window on AI cracking lattice cryptography. Speaking at Token2049, Buterin said there is a meaningful chance AI-driven mathematical advances break post-quantum cryptographic assumptions before quantum hardware does. Ethereum researcher Justin Drake separately urged holders to migrate assets to fresh addresses that keep public keys hidden, calling it calm but urgent hygiene. Europol has also issued a parallel warning that exposed public keys, not full blockchain infrastructure, are the primary near-term quantum attack surface.

Cybersecurity consultant convicted in $55M crypto theft that funded rare Pokémon cards. A US court found the defendant guilty of stealing nearly $55 million in digital assets, a portion of which was used to acquire high-value Pokémon collectibles and other goods. The case is a reminder that operational security failures in crypto theft investigations often come from the spending side.
