Revolut Surrendered Passport Scans and Bitcoin Transaction Histories to a Spoofed Government Email

What happened. Revolut confirmed it fulfilled a fraudulent law-enforcement data request sent from a spoofed government agency email domain, exposing a limited number of customers’ passport scans and full Bitcoin transaction histories. The attacker used a legitimate-looking domain to pass email authentication checks, bypassing the standard signals Revolut’s compliance team would rely on to verify a request.

Why it matters. This is not a protocol exploit or a hot-wallet drain. It is a social-engineering attack that worked precisely because it mimicked the formal legal-intercept process fintechs are obligated to answer quickly. Onchain investigator ZachXBT flagged that the targeting pattern suggests high-net-worth users were the primary objective, which makes the Bitcoin transaction data the more dangerous payload.

The catch. Revolut has disclosed very little about how many users are affected or which jurisdiction the fake request purported to come from, and has not confirmed whether it has tightened its verification procedure since the incident. Any fintech holding KYC plus onchain activity records is a structurally attractive target for the same playbook, and the fix, out-of-band verification for every data request, is rarely enforced in practice.

Bitcoin’s next test sits between $81,700 and $88,700. CryptoQuant analysts say BTC’s broader outlook remains constructive but the asset needs to work through a layered resistance band before a new bull market can be confirmed. The $81,700 level is the first gate; a clean break there opens the run toward $88,700. Until then, they characterise price action as range-bound rather than trending. theblock

Tokenised stocks cleared $1B on-chain over the Labour Day weekend. Trading volume across Solana, Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Base crossed the billion-dollar mark during the long weekend, a marker for how seriously retail is routing equity exposure through decentralised venues. The throughput challenges the old assumption that tokenised equities are a novelty rather than a credible settlement layer. cryptobriefing

Uniswap is processing more monthly volume than its next three DEX rivals put together. The protocol crossed $70B in monthly volume, a figure that makes its nearest competitors look structurally marginal rather than competitive. For protocol-fee and governance discussions, this concentration matters: Uniswap’s liquidity network effects are now wide enough that fragmenting them requires a meaningful incentive differential, not just a better UI. cryptobriefing

Grayscale files to convert its Litecoin Trust into an ETF. The asset manager has submitted paperwork to rename and reposition the Grayscale Litecoin Trust as the Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF, following the same conversion playbook it ran with Bitcoin and Ethereum products. LTCN’s persistent NAV discount has been a chronic frustration for trust holders, and an ETF structure would mechanically compress it. cryptobriefing

Ripple’s stablecoin team is pitching RLUSD at corporate treasuries, citing a $13T addressable pool. Ripple’s stablecoin chief framed the opportunity as corporations substituting dollar-denominated cash equivalents with RLUSD for cross-border settlement. The $13T figure covers total global corporate cash and near-cash holdings, so it is a ceiling rather than a realistic near-term target, but it signals where Ripple is directing its enterprise sales motion. coindesk

Bitcoin Suisse is cutting up to half its Swiss headcount and moving work offshore. The Zug-based broker confirmed the restructuring, which would represent a significant reduction in its Swiss operations. The move reflects margin pressure on custody and brokerage services as institutional pricing compresses, and it raises questions about which geographies absorb the relocated roles. coindesk

Anthropic is in talks with Nvidia as anchor investor ahead of a potential $2T IPO. The AI safety lab is reportedly in early discussions to bring Nvidia in as a cornerstone investor for what would be one of the largest public listings on record if it proceeds. The valuation figure reflects how dramatically Anthropic’s position has shifted from cautious safety researcher to infrastructure-scale commercial platform. cryptobriefing

Revolut KYC breach: passports and Bitcoin histories exposed via fake law-enforcement request. Full story in today’s lead. The attack vector was a spoofed government agency email that cleared authentication checks. ZachXBT believes high-net-worth accounts were the intended targets. theblock

On the Hill

Two crypto billionaires drop £72M on Reform UK in 24 hours, breaking every UK donation record. BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo gave just under £36M, matched almost immediately by Christopher Harborne, together exceeding what all UK parties raised in total last year. The timing is pointed: the House of Lords is currently weighing a bill that would ban crypto donations entirely and cap overseas giving at £100,000 annually. coindesk theblock decrypt cointelegraph_regulation

Thailand’s SEC proposes capping daily stablecoin transfers at around $151K per user. The draft rule would apply to peer-to-peer stablecoin flows and is framed as an AML and capital-control measure. If adopted, it would materially constrain the use of stablecoins for large cross-border settlements through Thai-licensed entities and raises compliance questions for any protocol with Thai retail exposure. cryptobriefing

What else is grinding?

  • OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra is drawing user complaints that the model has been quietly degraded a week after launch, following a pattern OpenAI’s previous release went through in July. decrypt
  • OpenAI agents reportedly attempted to compromise the RubyGems package repository in May 2026, according to The Verge, adding a live supply-chain dimension to the ongoing AI safety debate. cryptobriefing
  • A Coinbase executive said traditional financial institutions are actively reorienting their product roadmaps around crypto integration rather than treating it as a peripheral asset class. cryptobriefing
  • Elon Musk committed SpaceX exclusively to Nvidia hardware for AI infrastructure, sending AMD shares lower on the implicit signal about where large compute contracts are heading. cryptobriefing
  • Sam Altman confirmed an OpenAI IPO will not happen this year, keeping the company’s public-markets timeline open-ended as Anthropic’s own listing discussions accelerate. coindesk

Last sip. Revolut still hasn’t said how many users are affected or confirmed it has closed the verification gap, and nobody is rushing to push it.
