TradFi Quietly Builds Bitcoin Exposure While Sentiment Reads Fear

What happened. Three separate 13F disclosures landed in quick succession. UBS increased its bitcoin ETF call option position by roughly 24 times. Paul Tudor Jones’ firm reversed a year-long divestment and added back to its BlackRock IBIT stake. Harvard, which had cut its IBIT holding by 43% the prior quarter, left its remaining position untouched in Q2. Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council also held their combined 22.9 million IBIT shares flat.

Why it matters. The convergence of these filings in a single news cycle is harder to dismiss than any one in isolation. The Fear & Greed Index is sitting at 34, deep in fear territory, which makes the accumulation posture from this cohort a meaningful counter-signal. When a Swiss bulge-bracket bank is running a 24x increase in upside exposure and a macro legend is re-entering after a year of selling, the divergence between sentiment and positioning is worth tracking closely.

Watch. None of these positions are directional bets in the traditional sense: call options and ETF stakes can hedge, signal allocation committee approval, or satisfy client demand without reflecting a strong house view. The real tell will be whether these institutions convert optionality into spot or futures exposure over the next quarter. Watch the Q3 filings.

Pump.fun ranks third in seven-day protocol revenue, behind only Tether and Circle. The memecoin launchpad on Solana is generating more fees than any DeFi protocol or L1 over the past week, a stark reminder of where retail attention and capital are actually flowing. It also underlines Solana’s dominance as the venue for high-velocity, low-conviction trading. cryptobriefing

Solana leads tokenised T-bill growth with $378M in new issuance, spot DEXs log $5.8B in tokenised stock volume. The chain is pulling in both ends of the RWA trade simultaneously: institutional-grade tokenised treasuries and retail-facing tokenised equities running through spot DEXs. PancakeSwap v3 is the only other venue posting comparable tokenised stock volume, at roughly $3B. cryptobriefing cryptobriefing cryptobriefing

Swan CEO calls October the likely Bitcoin bottom and writes off altcoins entirely. Cory Klippsten argued that Bitcoin typically troughs about a year after its cycle peak and that the best long-term outcome for crypto is full absorption into traditional finance. The framing positions altcoins not as a laggard but as a structural casualty. cointelegraph_defi

Hyperliquid traders pricing Unitree IPO at 4x the offering price. The robotics firm is heading for a public listing and pre-market perpetual activity on Hyperliquid is implying a valuation well above the IPO price. It is an early data point for how decentralised derivatives venues are being used to express views on traditional equity events before listing day. coindesk

Projects & Money

World Liberty Financial receives a conditional bank charter to issue USD1 directly. The proposed World Liberty Trust Company would take over stablecoin issuance from BitGo, giving the Trump-linked project its own regulated banking entity. The charter is conditional, meaning regulatory hurdles remain, but approval would tighten the loop between the project and the US banking system significantly. decrypt

Craft Ventures targeting $1B for its first fund since David Sacks returned from the White House. Sacks spent time as the administration’s AI and crypto point person before returning to the firm he co-founded. A $1B raise would be a significant statement of intent and will attract scrutiny given his recent policy role. cryptobriefing

JPMorgan quietly severed Polymarket’s banking relationship last October but is pitching for IPO work. The bank dropped Polymarket as a client at the same time it was deepening its own prediction market research, according to the FT. Polymarket has moved to an undisclosed lender but reportedly still keeps the JPMorgan relationship warm in anticipation of a potential listing. theblock

Trump and CFTC Chair Selig are expected at a White House crypto and prediction market roundtable on Wednesday. The session is set for 2:30pm ET and serves as a warm-up for the CFTC’s inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting the following day. Presence at the table from both the president and the regulator suggests this is more than a photo opportunity. theblock

Washington state orders Kalshi to geo-fence out its residents by 19 August. Kalshi has until the end of next week to implement initial geofencing and must deploy a GeoComply multi-source system by 2 September. The order covers a broad range of prediction market contracts, not a specific product category, making it a meaningful jurisdictional test. cointelegraph_regulation

  • Wall Street’s pivot to private blockchains is a structural retreat from public infrastructure, not a complement to it, argues Ethereum advocate Raman in a CoinDesk op-ed. coindesk

Last sip. The Wednesday White House meeting puts crypto executives and a CFTC chair in the same room as the president, and nobody has said publicly what they expect to come out of it.
